At LanternCozies, we're committed to providing not only our beautiful,high-quality lanterns but also sustainable and eco-friendly packaging. In 2024, we decided to take our packaging to the next level by creating the CozieCan, a durable, reusable container that's both functional and visually appealing. It wasn't easy.... so here we'll share the story behind the development of the CozieCan and why we're excited about this innovative packaging solution.
The Problem with Traditional Box Packaging:
Packaging has come a long way but perhaps been more focused on appearance rather than sustainability or practicality.
Although LanternCozies is considered to be part of the candle industry, our lanterns are bigger and heavier and so the boxes are as well. Boxes often end up in recycling or contribute to waste, and we didn't feel a box would protect the lantern adequately during shipping or storage. At LanternCozies, we wanted to create packaging that not only looked great but also provided long-term value to our customers.
The Birth of the CozieCan:
To create the perfect package, we started by sourcing local, recycled materials. We discovered strong, recycled paper tubes from Quebec that could withstand the weight of our large candles. The heavy-duty metal stoppers come from Ohio, and the lids are manufactured locally in Ontario. By using locally sourced materials, we reduced our carbon footprint while supporting regional businesses.
Designing for Reusability:
Our primary goal was to design packaging that people would want to reuse. We envisioned customers keeping the CozieCan their lantern came in, using it for storing office supplies, craft materials, or even as a pen holder on their desk. To make the CozieCan versatile, we ensured it was stackable, making it easy to display and store in retail environments.
Functional and Attractive Design:
Not only is the CozieCan practical, but it's also visually striking. Its sleek, modern, simple design fits anywhere. When merchandised in stores, the CozieCan's eye-catching display is sure to spark creativity in customers, encouraging them to think outside the box when it comes to repurposing the packaging.
Customer Feedback:
We debuted the CozieCan at the 2024 CanGift show, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Stores praised its sturdiness, functionality, and attractiveness. "I'm so glad you guys are thinking about sustainability; it's important to me and my customers."
